Schedule Details

Departure (5:00 AM)

Boarding (5:00 AM): Meet and board the tour bus outside International House. For self drive, it's approximately 60 km northwest of Nairobi, and the drive should take around 1.5 to 2 hours.

Breakfast (6:30 AM): Stop over for a hearty breakfast to fuel your energy for the hike. Include carbohydrates, proteins, and fruits.

Arrival at Mount Longonot National Park (7:00 AM)

Entrance Fees and Registration (7:00 AM): We'll pay the entrance fees and complete any required registration at the park gate. It's also a good time to ask for any last-minute updates on the trail conditions.

Hike Preparation (7:30 AM): Double-check your gear, ensure you have enough water (at least 2 liters per person), and apply sunscreen. The hike will be sunny, and hydration is crucial. A brief warm up stretch session.

Hike Starts (8:00 AM)

Start the Hike (8:00 AM): Begin your ascent to the summit of Mount Longonot. The trail is well-marked and relatively straightforward, but it becomes steeper as you ascend.

 

Summit (12:00 PM)

Summit (12:00 PM): Reach the summit of Mount Longonot, where you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the crater and surrounding landscapes. Have a packed lunch and spend some time exploring the summit.

Complete Circuit (2:00pm): Complete the scenic hike around the crater to the starting point. The remainder of the trail is straight.

Start Descent (3:00 PM)

Start the Descent (2:00 PM): Begin your descent back to the trailhead. Going down is generally easier but can be tough on the knees, so be cautious.

Rest (4:00 PM)

Finish the Hike (4:00 PM): Return to the park entrance, where you'll complete any necessary sign-out procedures.

Rest and Refresh (4:30 PM): Rest and freshen up at the park facilities. There may be picnic areas or restrooms available.

Depart from Mount Longonot National Park (5:30 PM)

Departure to Nairobi (5:30 PM): Start your journey back to Nairobi, enjoying the beautiful sunset if you have time. Remember that the drive back may take 1.5 to 2 hours.

 

Arrival at Nairobi CBD (7:30 PM)

Arrive, Reflect and Relax (7:30 PM): Arrive back to Nairobi CBD drop off at International House. Reflect on your day's adventure and relax after an exhilarating hike to Mount Longonot. Share your photos and memories with friends and family.

What to Bring
  1. Comfortable Hiking Boots: Sturdy and comfortable hiking boots with good traction to navigate uneven terrain. A size bigger is recommended.

  2. Moisture-Wicking (quick dry) Clothing: Wear moisture-wicking, breathable clothing to help regulate your body temperature. Dress in layers to adjust to changing weather.

  3. Hat and Sunglasses: A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect against the sun's rays.
